Entertainment for a corporate iftar

A corporate iftar is one of the most meaningful events in the Gulf business calendar: a chance to thank clients, partners and teams in the spirit of the holy month. The entertainment should honour that spirit — warm, traditional and understated. Here is how to plan it for an iftar or suhoor in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh or Doha. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on or around 8 February; the official dates follow the moon sighting.

Set the right tone

Ramadan entertainment is about atmosphere, not performance. Guests come to break their fast together, talk and connect. Choose music that creates a sense of occasion without demanding attention: traditional, instrumental and at a gentle volume. Every venue and host has its own approach during the holy month, so confirm what is appropriate with your venue before you book.

The best musicians for an iftar

  • Oud and qanun duo — the classic choice for hotel tents, majlis settings and corporate iftars; refined and unmistakably Arabic
  • Solo oud player — intimate, ideal for smaller gatherings and VIP welcomes
  • Qanun with light percussion — a little more texture for larger rooms
  • Traditional Arabic ensemble — for large venues, lightly amplified so the whole room hears it
  • Pianist — Arabic melodies and gentle classics for international teams

Timing around the evening

Plan the music around the rhythm of the evening rather than over the moment of iftar itself. Guests break their fast, many pray, and then the evening relaxes — that is when live music works best. For suhoor gatherings, which run later into the night, music can play for longer. Your venue will know the prayer times for the date.

Welcoming guests

First impressions matter at corporate events. A musician at the entrance — an oud player in traditional dress, or a qanun player in the reception area — sets the tone before guests sit down. It also works well for photos and social posts from the event.

Iftars in Saudi Arabia and Qatar

Corporate iftars are just as important in Riyadh, Jeddah and Doha. The same principles apply: traditional instrumental music, gentle volume, and timing around the meal. See our pages on musicians in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Book early

Ramadan is the busiest month of the year for oud and qanun players, and corporate iftar dates cluster in the same few weeks. Plan in January for a February or March iftar, and send us your date, venue and guest count as soon as they are set.

Planning checklist

  • Confirm with the venue what entertainment is appropriate during Ramadan
  • Choose instrumental, traditional music at a gentle volume
  • Plan the music for after iftar and prayer, not during
  • Decide on a welcome musician at the entrance
  • Confirm the dress code — traditional dress suits most iftars
  • Book in January for a Ramadan date

Questions, answered

What entertainment suits a corporate iftar?

Traditional instrumental Arabic music — an oud and qanun duo, a solo oud player or a small traditional ensemble — played gently after the meal. Confirm with your venue what is appropriate.
